WhatsApp is currently in the process of developing a new feature that will allow users to save disappearing messages.
This feature, which has been referred to as “Kept” messages, has not yet been released to beta testers but is being developed for a future update of the app. Disappearing messages, a feature already offered by WhatsApp, allow users to send messages that are only visible on the chat window for a set period of time.
The “Kept” messages feature will enable users to save these disappearing messages, although they will still have the option to delete the message from the chat if they choose to “un-keep” it. It is currently unknown when this feature will be made available to users.
According to Wabetainfo, the “Kept” messages feature, which has not yet been released to beta testers, is a variation of the disappearing messages feature offered by WhatsApp.

“Kept” messages are temporarily saved and can be viewed by all participants in the conversation, but users can choose to “un-keep” the message and delete it permanently from the chat. The feature was first spotted by Wabetainfo and has not yet been announced for a wider release.
According to a screenshot shared by Wabetainfo, a bookmark icon, which represents a “Kept” message, can be found in the message bubble of disappearing messages to distinguish it from regular disappearing messages.
The icon indicates that the disappearing message has been “kept” and will not be automatically deleted from the chat. The chat will remain visible on the window as long as the “Kept” message has not been “un-kept” by the user.
The bookmark icon, which represents a “Kept” message, serves as a visual indicator that the disappearing message has been saved and will not be automatically deleted from the chat, even if the disappearing messages feature is turned on and the message has already expired.
This feature allows users to easily distinguish “Kept” messages from regular disappearing messages within the chat, and it is worth noting that all participants in the conversation can delete these messages at any time.
WhatsApp is currently developing the ability to keep disappearing messages for a future update of the app, but it is not yet known when this feature will be released to users. In addition to this, WhatsApp has recently rolled out a feature that allows users to access the app during internet shutdowns through the use of proxy servers.
This is particularly useful in countries and cities where internet shutdowns occur frequently.
